Totter Pines golf cource - San Diego golf - golfing in San Diego California

Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course is located about 20 minutes North of downtown San Diego on the coastal bluffs of Southern California, between the cities of La Jolla, CA and Del Mar, CA. There are two 18-hole Torrey Pines Golf Courses - Torrey North and Torrey South. Both courses are played by the PGA TOUR professionals during the Buick Invitational of California held in January or February every year. The courses were originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957. In 2001, at a cost of $ 3.5 million, Torrey Pines South Course was renovated and redesigned by Rees Jones. The renovation and redesign made the Torrey Pines South longer and more difficult and it was subsequently selected by the USGA to host 2008 U.S. Open Championship. Although both golf courses provide some of the most dramatic golf ocean views from several holes, Torrey Pines North is still considered the host for the Torrey Pines Golf Course signature hole which is the Par 3 # 6 Hole.

Both Torrey Pines Golf Courses are open and available for public play although getting tee times can be difficult. Most Torrey Pines tee times are only available by participating in a telephone tee time lottery conducted by Torrey Pines Golf Course and held every evening at 7 p.m. for tee times 7 days in advance. Every phone in the world has an equal opportunity to get "the lucky ring" and a confirmed tee time in this unique Torrey Pines tee time lottery.

Torrey Pines North is the shorter and less difficult course and the green fees are $ 40 - $ 50 per person less than Torrey Pines South. Although the North course will not provide quite the same test of your golf skills as Torrey Pines South, many golfers consider the North course to be a little more scenic than the South - but not by much as both courses have breathtaking ocean views. At 7,227 yards from the blue tees and a slope / rating of 139 / 76.1, Torrey Pines South is an extremely tough test of your golf skills. Fortunately there is a great selection of tee boxes and yardages so golfers of all abilities can enjoy the fabulous ocean views and a great day of San Diego golf at either Torrey Pines golf course.

The name of the course comes from the many Torrey Pine trees on both courses. These trees are the rarest pines trees in the country and only live in two locations - Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Santa Barbara and here in San Diego on Torrey Pines Golf Course and within the Torrey Pine State Reserve.

The other main local San Diego golf course, Balboa Park, is located near the heart of Downtown San Diego. The facility features an 18 hole championship course and a nine hole executive course. All 27 greens were recently renovated and new cart paths were added. The 18 hole course features views of the City and Coronado from many holes.

Tee times are reserved by calling the computer reservation system telephone number (619) 570-1234.

San Diego City residents must obtain a computer reservation Personal Identification Number(PIN) before reserving tee times in order to pay the resident rates. Computer reservation cards can be obtained at either golf course in the starter booths and golf shops. Allow five days for the entry of the computer reservation card and PIN into the reservation system.

Non-Residents must use their phone numbers in lieu of a PIN to reserve tee times
