There are many awesome surf spots up and down the San Diego coast. Many are accessible from the freeway with great breaks. Depending on your skill lever, you may want to visit one or more of them. During the summer, most of the breaks are manageable to even a beginning surfer, but places like Blacks beach can be huge during both summer and winter. Heading north in under an hour you can find great spots in Cardiff, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Escondido, and then move south to Solana Beach, La Jolla, Pacific and Mission beaches.
